Industrial warehouses may use pallet racks, shelving, cabinets, floor storage or designated positions for oversized materials. The appropriate arrangement depends on inventory characteristics and the way goods are retrieved.
Record the dimensions, weights and handling needs of stored items. Consider whether materials arrive on pallets, in containers, in bundles or as individual components. Heavy, fragile or unusually shaped items may require specific storage and handling arrangements.
Plan aisle widths, turning areas and access routes around the selected handling equipment. Forklifts, pallet trucks and other equipment have different movement and clearance requirements.
Storage height should reflect the building's usable clear height, rack configuration, equipment reach and any applicable fire protection provisions. Rack design, loading and anchoring must also be addressed.
